Van Loveren

South Africa's largest family-owned winery — with alcohol-free sparkling from handpicked grapes.

The House

A family estate since 1937

Van Loveren is run by four cousins — and has grown into South Africa's largest family-owned winery.

The story begins in 1937, when Hennie Retief snr acquired land in the Robertson Valley and named it after Christina van Loveren, an ancestor of his bride. Three generations later, the estate is known for consistency, awards and innovation.

With Absolute Zero and Papillon, the family brings that same craft to alcohol-free sparkling wine — proudly made from handpicked grapes.

History

From Christina van Loveren to today

From humble beginnings the estate grew steadily: in 1980 the Van Loveren brand was born, in 2000 the four cousins launched the famous Four Cousins range. Today Van Loveren wines are enjoyed far beyond South Africa.

The Family

Four cousins, one estate

Hennie and Neil tend the vineyards, Bussell makes the wines and Phillip runs the business. Family, fun and wine converge at Van Loveren — and everyone should be able to raise a glass.

Celebrate life — with or without alcohol.

The Range

Absolute Zero & Papillon

Absolute Zero Dry is 100% de-alcoholised Sauvignon Blanc sparkling — crisp and tropical. Absolute Zero Nectar is its gently sweet sibling. Papillon Sparkling White combines Sauvignon Blanc and Colombard in the Charmat method — 100% white grapes, 0% alcohol.

The Craft

How the bubbles are made

Real South African wine craft — without the alcohol.

01

Handpicked grapes

Sauvignon Blanc and Colombard from the Robertson Valley.

02

Vinify & de-alcoholise

Fully vinified, then gently de-alcoholised to under 0.05%.

03

Sparkle & bottle

Fine, festive bubbles — ready for any celebration.

At the Table

How to serve it

Well chilled at 5–7 °C. The Dry suits aperitifs, seafood and light dishes; the Nectar shines with brunch and desserts; Papillon is the easy, festive all-rounder.
