Lautus is South Africa’s leading producer of premium alcohol-free wine.
Lautus is made at Holder Vineyards in Stellenbosch, the heart of South African wine. In 2017, winemaker Reg Holder released the country’s first alcohol-free wine — inspired by his wife’s wish during her pregnancy.
Traditional winemaking meets advanced spinning cone technology: the alcohol is gently removed at low temperature while varietal character and balance remain. The name “Lautus” is Latin for elegant and refined.
History
Born of a wish
The idea for Lautus grew from the wish of Reg Holder’s wife during her first pregnancy — for an alcohol-free wine that shows the elegance and finesse of fine wine. In 2017 it became South Africa’s first alcohol-free wine.
The People
Reg Holder
Reg Holder studied viticulture and oenology in Stellenbosch (2003), gained experience in France, Australia and the USA, was a winemaker at Neil Ellis and Cellarmaster and General Manager of Delheim — before devoting himself to premium alcohol-free wine.
